Understanding Vivint equipment financing before you buy

Read the equipment financing and monitoring agreements separately. Vivint advertises month-to-month service when equipment is purchased upfront. Financing introduces a separate payment obligation; check the service terms for your particular offer.

• Equipment: Request the full purchase price, any down payment, the payment schedule and total financing cost.
• Monitoring: Confirm the service term, monthly charge, renewal and cancellation provisions in your offer.
• If you cancel monitoring: Do not assume cancellation clears equipment debt. Confirm any remaining balance and account-specific service charges.
• After payoff: Paying off equipment ends that equipment balance. Monitoring, service charges and any other agreement obligations remain separate.
• No hidden interest? Vivint's financing terms vary by package. Confirm the total financed amount vs. the upfront price before signing.

Does Vivint require a contract?

Vivint offers month-to-month service when equipment is purchased upfront. A financed purchase has a separate financing agreement; check the monitoring service agreement for that offer as well. How does Vivint compare to ADT?

Both brands offer professionally installed options, and ADT also offers self-setup. Compare the selected equipment, installation charge, monitoring agreement and any separate financing agreement. Features, prices and cancellation terms depend on the specific offer.

Is Vivint worth the price?

It may fit a buyer who wants professional installation and compatible integrated devices. Value depends on the itemized equipment price, installation, monitoring term and any financing balance. We have not published comparative camera or app tests proving that Vivint is best, and a low upfront offer should not be treated as its full ownership cost.

What equipment comes with Vivint?

The named HomeProtect bundle lists a Security Hub, keypad, motion sensor and three door/window sensors. HomeProtect Pro uses a different Smart Hub configuration. Confirm the exact contents, cameras, installation and payment terms in your quote rather than assuming every package includes the same hub or accessories.

Can I cancel Vivint monitoring?

Ask Vivint to confirm your account’s service term, notice requirements and any cancellation charges before ending monitoring. Equipment financing is a separate obligation; ending service does not automatically erase a remaining equipment balance. Get written confirmation of the cancellation and any amount due.

How does Vivint handle power outages?

Behavior depends on the hub, remaining battery power, cellular coverage and active service. Vivint describes four-hour backup for the HomeProtect Security Hub; other hubs have different specifications. An alarm hub’s backup does not mean every camera, router or smart device keeps working. We have not published direct outage tests.

Can I install Vivint myself?

Vivint primarily offers professional installation. Confirm the installation charge and any promotional waiver in your written quote; included installation does not always mean the charge is zero. Setup options for individual add-on devices can differ.

Does Vivint work with Google Home, Alexa, or Apple HomeKit?

Google Home is natively supported. Vivint’s support notice says Amazon Echo and Alexa skill support ended on November 4, 2025. Do not choose the system assuming Alexa voice control is supported. Apple HomeKit is not supported. The Smart Hub Pro 2 lists Z-Wave among its radios, but a protocol label does not confirm that an existing lock, thermostat or garage-door opener will work. Ask Vivint to confirm your exact hub, device model and required service before buying. If HomeKit is a priority, Abode supports it natively and may be a better fit.
