Start with the work you want the system to do. Vivint offers a professionally installed system, with different packages for basic alarms and wider camera or smart-home needs. Cove lets you install the alarm yourself or pay for help.

For a sensor alarm, price Vivint HomeProtect against the same coverage from Cove. For cameras and automation, compare the exact models and service features. A brand-wide “best” verdict skips the details that determine your bill.

A basic sensor alarm HomeProtect includes a Security Hub, keypad, three door/window sensors and one motion sensor. Its standard listed monitoring price is $29.99/month. Basic is listed at $22.99/month in Cove support. For Cove Connect, it includes app control. Quote enough sensors to cover the same entry points.
Cameras and smart-home devices HomeProtect and HomeProtect Pro support different equipment. Pro supports the wider lineup, including outdoor and indoor cameras. Check the package differences. Plus is listed at $32.99/month with camera support and seven-day cloud history. Premium is $42.99/month with 30-day history and other features. Confirm each camera’s compatibility.
Equipment and installation bill Use an itemized package quote. The HomeProtect example below is for a basic alarm, not an outdoor-camera or full-automation system. Use the same sensor and camera list. We have not verified a current fixed-price Cove kit with identical contents.
Service commitment Month-to-month service is available with upfront equipment purchase. Discounted or financed offers can have different terms; read the specific agreement. The upfront-payment Value option has no long-term monitoring contract. If financing through Affirm, read that separate agreement. Older Economy-plan terms relate to a retired panel.

Check Cove’s monthly total: its marketing page uses rounded daily prices that differ from its support-page monthly figures. Cove also documents a $3 credit-card payment fee. Confirm whether that fee is already included in your quote; do not add it twice.

For camera shopping, write down whether you need live viewing, saved events or a longer recording history. Compare those functions on the chosen hardware. We have not established a camera-quality or monitoring-response winner from product descriptions.

This example compares the cost of a basic sensor alarm with professional monitoring. Cameras and home automation are separate additions.

Vivint HomeProtect, upfront purchase

Using the standard prices in Vivint’s published offer terms:

$349.99 equipment + $199 installation + ($29.99 × 36 months) = $1,628.63.

Cove, equivalent sensor coverage

At the support-page Basic rate:

Your equipment quote + installation + ($22.99 × 36 months).

The monitoring subtotal is $827.64. Add the equipment and setup charges from your actual offer.

The complete Cove total is unknown until its equipment, installation and billing fees are confirmed. A service subtotal is not a complete-system price.

Both examples assume 36 paid months at an unchanged rate, no financing interest and no promotional free months. Add tax, permits, shipping and other required charges. If the two offers cover different doors or camera functions, fix that mismatch before comparing totals.

Before you sign: separate service from equipment

A low monthly payment can cover only part of what you owe. Ask for these figures in writing:

  1. Equipment: total price, amount paid today and any financed balance.
  2. Service: monthly charge, what is included and any minimum term.
  3. Installation: the work included and any added charge for mounting or accessories.
  4. Leaving or moving: notice requirements, cancellation charges and payments that remain.
  5. Returns: the deadline, who authorizes the return and what must be sent back.

Vivint describes equipment financing and monitoring as separate bills. Cove also offers financing through a separate provider. Canceling alarm service does not, by itself, settle an equipment loan. Vivint financing information · Cove equipment payment options.

For Cove returns, its terms require notification and shipment of required items within 60 days of purchase; return-shipping charges can apply. Do not assume this is Vivint’s return window. Read the cancellation and return terms attached to the Vivint offer. Cove return terms, section 13.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vivint worth the extra cost over Cove?
That depends on the two offers, and Vivint is not necessarily more expensive in every scenario. Compare the same sensor coverage, camera functions and installation choice. Then decide whether any extra equipment or service is worth its full cost to you. Do not compare a basic alarm with a larger camera-and-automation package.
Does Cove have the same monitoring quality as Vivint?
Both offer professional alarm monitoring, but we have not tested their response times or established equal service quality. Ask how each selected service verifies an alarm, reaches you, handles connection loss and requests emergency help. A certification or center count alone does not answer those questions.
Can I self-install Vivint equipment?
Vivint’s current system offers use professional installation. Cove offers DIY setup and an optional HelloTech installation service. Confirm the work included and appointment availability before ordering; this comparison does not promise same-day service.
What happens if I cancel Vivint after signing up?
Ask for the service term, cancellation process and any amount due on your specific agreement. Vivint offers month-to-month options when equipment is paid upfront; other offers can include a service commitment. Equipment financing is a separate agreement, so ending monitoring does not automatically cancel the loan. Get written confirmation from each company involved.
