Apple Home Collection Cameras: Costs, iCloud+ and Hubs

Written by SecurityCompass HQ | Oct 13, 2026, 8:11:12 PM

Research-based announcement coverage, October 13, 2026. Manufacturer statements and documented requirements, not hands-on testing.

For recorded event history, budget for the camera, a compatible home hub and iCloud+. Reusing eligible equipment and a paid plan can reduce new costs. Requirements: LG and Apple.

What Apple announced, and when you can buy it

Apple announced LG cameras, a wired doorbell and a lock on October 13. Availability begins December 2026; some accessories follow in early 2027. Exact US release days for these two models remain unconfirmed. Apple’s availability details.

This is most relevant if you already use Apple Home and want to compare a new camera with the equipment you own. It is a less straightforward fit if your first requirement is subscription-free playback or proven power-outage recording. Those capabilities need separate evidence.

The four costs to separate

Write down camera hardware, any hub purchase, recording service, and installation or wiring work. Combining them into one attractive camera price hides the real decision.

Announced or listed US prices checked October 13, 2026; availability and eligibility vary
Component Price or requirement Check before choosing
LG Indoor Cam Plug-in $199.95; later availability USB-C power; supplied adapter and cable. Exact indoor-camera listing.
LG Video Doorbell Wired, Essence Silver $249.95; later availability Existing 16–24V AC doorbell wiring; verify the installation. Exact wired-doorbell listing.
Apple home hub Possibly already owned; HomePod mini 2 announced at $149 Match the exact generation, software and desired features. HomePod mini announcement.
Standard iCloud+ recording 50GB: $0.99/month, one camera; 200GB: $2.99/month, up to five; 2TB: $9.99/month, unlimited These are standard recording limits, not a promise of all new AI features. iCloud+ plans; US prices.
Installation and extra work Not priced here Ask what is included, whether wiring work costs extra, and who supports the finished setup.

A three-year example, with three different starting points

For one indoor camera and standard one-camera recording, 36 months at $0.99 is $35.64. At today’s listed prices, the illustrative total is:

  • Buying a new $149 HomePod mini 2: $384.59 = $199.95 camera + $149 hub + $35.64 recording.
  • Compatible hub already owned, new recording plan needed: $235.59.
  • Compatible hub and an eligible paid plan with unused camera capacity already owned: $199.95 incremental hardware cost. Your existing service still costs money.

These are future setup examples, not an available bundle or a price guarantee. They assume unchanged prices and exclude tax, installation, wiring, electricity, internet, an iPhone, optional upgrades and other required equipment. Do not use the cheapest example to budget for every announced AI feature.

Do you actually need HomeView?

HomeView is one hub option, not a universal extra purchase. LG lists HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K and HomeView as Apple home-hub examples, with services depending on model and region. Check the exact compatibility list and software requirements for your camera and intended features. LG’s requirements and footnotes.

Before replacing anything, inventory your hub and iCloud+ plan. Then ask two separate questions: “Will my current setup support recording?” and “Will it support the particular AI feature I want?” A broad compatibility listing does not settle both.

For NFC pairing, Apple requires an iPhone running the latest operating system. LG requires Wi-Fi. Check both alongside your hub before installation. Apple requirements; LG requirements.

Recording questions that matter

Does “no separate camera subscription” mean free recording?

No. iCloud event history requires iCloud+. An eligible existing paid plan may avoid an added charge; the service is still paid. New video summaries and search require an eligible subscription, an Apple-Intelligence-capable setup device and a supported updated hub; their camera limits can differ from standard recording.

Is ten-day history continuous recording?

Apple documents the preceding ten days of activity, with recordings excluded from the storage quota. That is rolling event history, not a verified all-day timeline. Hub analysis determines when activity is recorded. HomeKit Secure Video recording details.

Will the cameras record if Wi-Fi or power fails?

The exact indoor-camera and doorbell listings describe onboard storage that sustains recording during a Wi-Fi interruption. That does not establish battery backup. The indoor camera uses USB-C power; the wired doorbell uses AC wiring. Losing the connection and losing electricity are different tests.

Local capacity, outage duration, later recovery, and playback or export without iCloud+ are not established here. Neither is continuous 24/7 local recording. Ask for those answers before treating onboard storage as a subscription-free recorder.

Installation is not professional monitoring

Apple announces optional paid ADT installation through Apple Retail in the US. Installation does not establish alarm monitoring or emergency dispatch. Request an itemized quote and separate terms for ongoing services. Apple’s installation announcement.

Also check who handles a failed device. Apple’s listings assign non-Apple product support to the manufacturer and exclude these products from Apple Limited Warranty coverage. The exact LG warranty duration, exclusions and applicable return terms remain unverified here; check the product’s actual warranty rather than assuming Apple-branded coverage.

Before committing to an installation

  1. Match what you own. Record the camera SKU, exact hub generation, software and plan capacity.
  2. Price the result you need. Separate standard event recording from AI features and installation work.
  3. Ask about failure and support. Confirm wiring, loss of Wi-Fi versus power, access to stored footage, and the manufacturer’s warranty.

We have not tested image quality, notification reliability, outage recovery or installation support. Those are launch-day questions, not announcement-day conclusions.
