Budget home security: compare the complete cost
Start with the job you need done: save useful footage, detect an opening, or have a monitoring service respond. Then price the equipment and service that actually deliver it.
For a camera with local storage, compare a named camera plus its recording media and power accessories. For monitored sensors, compare complete Wyze Home Monitoring, Ring Alarm, Cove and SimpliSafe configurations. Wyze does offer a monitored alarm; its lack of cellular backup is a separate limitation.

Choose the view, power supply and recording method. Price storage media or a camera subscription. Decide how you will retrieve a clip after a missed alert or a stolen camera.

Count the openings you intend to cover. Include the hub, keypad and exact sensors; a starter kit's low headline price may leave several openings uncovered.

The cheaper starter kit can cost more after three years
Use the same equipment list, recording needs and comparison period for each quote. For equipment bought outright:
Total = equipment + installation + accessories + service during the period + other required charges
If equipment is financed, instead count the down payment and installments paid during the period, and show the remaining equipment balance separately. Do not add the full cash hardware price and all finance installments together.

Basket B costs $150 more at purchase and saves $5 each month. It catches up after 30 months; at 36 months it is $30 cheaper. A temporary discount or different feature requirement changes that result.
Before you accept a “no-contract” offer
- Get the equipment, service, recording and installation charges in writing.
- Check the first renewal price, billing cadence and any prepaid-service refund terms.
- Separate service cancellation from equipment financing and other unpaid balances.
- Confirm what remains usable after the paid plan ends, including app controls and saved recordings.
- Ask your insurer about your exact system and policy before counting a discount as savings.
Build a shortlist around your home
Choose the smallest complete basket that meets your actual needs, then compare two written offers. Add coverage because you need it—not because a countdown timer makes the starter kit look urgent.

What is the cheapest home security system?
Compare the least expensive complete setup that meets your need. A camera with local storage, a self-managed alarm and a professionally monitored alarm provide different services. Include equipment, recording media, installation and renewal costs before deciding.
Does Wyze offer a professionally monitored alarm?
Yes. Wyze Home Monitoring uses a Sense Hub and sensors with professional monitoring through Noonlight. It is separate from buying a Wyze camera. The manufacturer says Home Monitoring does not support cellular backup; verify hardware stock and service eligibility before ordering.
Does no monthly fee mean free recording and monitoring?
No. Some cameras support local recording with purchased storage, but that does not automatically include cloud history or professional alarm response. Check the exact camera, storage, power and service requirements.
Does a low monitoring price include camera recordings?
Not necessarily. SimpliSafe Standard lists professional dispatch and network backup but excludes saved camera recordings. Compare the plan that includes the recordings you actually need, rather than assuming every monitored plan includes video.
What should I check before canceling a budget plan?
Read the renewal, cancellation and refund terms for the exact subscription. Equipment financing, installation balances and prepaid service can have separate obligations. Record what app access, recordings and monitoring will remain after cancellation.
