Wyze Camera Keeps Going Offline? Here Is How to Fix It

The quick answer

A Wyze camera that keeps going offline is almost always a Wi-Fi problem, usually weak signal or the wrong band. The fastest fix is to power cycle the camera (unplug it for 5 seconds, plug it back in), then confirm it is on your 2.4 GHz network with at least 2 bars of signal in the Wyze app.

Seeing "Device Offline" in the Wyze app is annoying, but it rarely means the camera is dead. Wyze's own troubleshooting guide works through the same suspects every time: power, the camera itself, your router, and the Wi-Fi connection. Here are those steps, ordered from most to least likely, based on the official Wyze support pages.

Fix it step by step

  1. Check the status light. The status light tells you the state of the camera, including its connection status. After setup, a solid blue light means the camera is powered, connected, and working properly. If the light is flashing or red, the camera is not connected. If there is no light at all, move on to the power check next.

  2. Check the power connection. Make sure the camera is actually plugged in and the outlet has power. You may have unplugged it, or a switched outlet may have been turned off. If the camera is not plugged into power, it will show as offline in the app.

  3. Power cycle the camera. This is the simplest fix and often resolves the issue. Unplug the camera from its power source, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back in and give it a minute or two to boot and reconnect.

  4. Reboot your router. Unplug your router, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. This re-establishes the connection to all of your connected devices at once. If other devices in your home are also offline, this step is very likely your fix.

  5. Check the signal strength. In the Wyze app, go to the camera's settings, then Device Info, then Signal Strength. If it shows less than 2 bars, the connection is marginal and will keep dropping. Try moving the camera closer to the router or removing physical obstacles between them.

  6. Confirm you are on a 2.4 GHz band. Most Wyze cameras only support 2.4 GHz networks and will not connect to 5 GHz networks. If you recently changed your router, make sure the camera is back on the 2.4 GHz band. On a dual-band or multi-band router you may need to split the bands to connect to the 2.4 GHz network.

  7. Update the Wyze app and the camera firmware. In the Wyze app, go to the Account tab and tap About to see your app version, and use the Account tab's Firmware Update section to check the camera. Outdated apps and firmware can cause connectivity issues, and a Wyze camera with really outdated firmware may not connect at all.

  8. Factory reset the camera, as a last resort. Remove any microSD card first, then reset the camera to its original factory settings. Wyze instructs pressing and holding the setup button (about 10 seconds on most models), then set the camera up again as new. The exact reset steps vary by camera model, so check Wyze's page for your specific camera.

When it is actually broken

Some signs point to settings or network problems, not a dead camera. For example, Wyze says that if your camera shows offline in the app but you can still load the live stream, then it is not actually offline: power cycling and a firmware update are the right fix, not a reset. Similarly, dropouts that go away after a router reboot or a signal-strength fix are network issues, not hardware failure.

Signs the camera itself may be failing: it never reaches a solid blue light after power cycling and a fresh setup on a known-good 2.4 GHz network, or it keeps throwing "Device is offline (error code 90)" even after a factory reset with WPA/WPA2 and 2.4 GHz confirmed on the router. If you have worked through every step above and it still will not stay connected, contact Wyze Support for help or a replacement.

Thinking of replacing it?

If your camera is a few years old, newer models stream more reliably and store footage locally, with no monthly fee required.
