The quick answer

The three eufy cameras covered here can record locally without a required recording subscription, but they do not use the same storage setup. SoloCam S340 has built-in storage; Indoor Cam S350 and Floodlight Camera E340 can use a compatible microSD card. HomeBase is an optional supported storage path for these models, not a universal requirement.

Start with your recording goal: motion clips from a battery camera and continuous footage from a powered camera are different products. A solar panel does not turn the S340 into a 24/7 recorder.

Choose the recording path before buying

SoloCam S340: outdoor event recording

eufy documents 8GB of built-in storage and optional HomeBase S380 support. The S340 can work without buying a HomeBase. Its manufacturer FAQ says it does not support continuous 24/7 recording, including when connected to HomeBase 3. Solar charging depends on placement, sunlight and use; plan to check battery level instead of assuming maintenance-free operation.

Consider it if: event clips fit your goal and running power is difficult. Look elsewhere if: you need to review every moment between motion events.

Floodlight Camera E340: powered recording and lighting

Local recording requires a compatible microSD card (up to 128GB in the cited documentation) or a supported HomeBase S380 setup. It can support continuous recording when storage and power are configured. HomeBase is not the only storage choice.

Before buying: verify the exact power variant. eufy sells an AC-cable version as well as hardwired configurations; follow the manual for the purchased kit. Use qualified installation help where required. Lighting is not a guarantee that a crime will be prevented.

Indoor Cam S350: indoor recording with a storage card

A compatible microSD card provides an on-camera recording path; HomeBase 3 is also supported for additional storage. Include the card in your budget. Continuous-recording retention depends on resolution, settings and available capacity, not just the number printed on the card.

Before installing: check what the camera actually sees from its planned position. Pan-and-tilt coverage does not mean every direction is recorded simultaneously. Respect household privacy and avoid aiming into neighbors' private spaces.

Local storage has tradeoffs

  • Footage location matters. An on-camera recording may disappear with a stolen camera. A separate recorder can help only if footage reached it and that recorder remains available.
  • Storage is finite. Understand overwrite behavior and export important clips before they are replaced.
  • Local does not mean everything works offline. Check recording, app playback, remote access and alerts separately for your model and configuration.
  • Cloud backup is not universal. Do not buy a plan assuming it supports your exact model, region and recording mode; verify eligibility first.

Your pre-purchase checklist

  1. Write down the exact model and whether you need event clips or continuous video.
  2. Identify where the recording is saved and which storage hardware is included.
  3. Add equipment, storage, mounting, power accessories and any installation cost.
  4. Verify live view, alerts, playback and any required AI features without a paid trial.
  5. Confirm the return policy and test the installed view and clip export while you can still return the product.

Editorial correction, October 5, 2026: The earlier version incorrectly implied that SoloCam S340 needed HomeBase for its local recording and overstated crime-deterrence and whole-room coverage. We corrected those claims and added model-specific manufacturer sources. We have not tested video quality, missed events, solar endurance or outage behavior.
