SimpliSafe DIY option
SimpliSafe’s keypad uses physical buttons and a display. Have the intended user try the controls and confirm they can notice the system’s alerts. Review additional-user access and monitoring requirements separately; pet-related false alarms also depend on the sensor model and placement.
ADT — Installation support
Ask what the proposed ADT installation includes and have the installer demonstrate the controls with the person who will use them. With a compatible Echo device, linked accounts and a compatible active Ring subscription, Alexa can arm Ring Alarm and check its status. Can family members receive alerts from a senior's security system?
Additional access depends on the system, plan and permissions. SimpliSafe currently lets an owner with a paid residential monitoring plan invite up to 25 additional users at one location. Those users have broad control, including arming, alarm handling and recording management; this is not a view-only caregiver role. Is a medical alert system better than a home security system for seniors?
They serve different needs. Compare a home alarm’s intrusion features separately from a medical alert product’s emergency-contact, wearable or fall-detection features. Do not assume an ordinary alarm, voice command or camera includes those capabilities. Ask the provider which device, active service and setup are required for the help you want.
Which system is easiest to set up for a senior?
The best setup depends on the person and home. If installation is a barrier, ask what a professional installer will configure and demonstrate. For DIY, check the exact mounting instructions and practise the keypad and app with the person who will use them. Include any help needed to manage batteries, account access and service changes.
