Cancel Ring: billing, recordings and alarm features

Before you cancel

1. Check the correct plan and location. Note the billing period, renewal date and add-ons in your account. A monthly payment and a prepaid annual plan have different amounts already paid.
2. Save important recordings. Download videos first. Rejoining later will not recover recordings lost when the plan ends.
3. Make a plan for the features you use. Identify whether you need camera replay, alarm app alerts, cellular backup or professional monitoring. These are separate capabilities.
4. Use Ring’s cancellation controls. Sign in at ring.com, open Plan, choose the relevant subscription and confirm cancellation. Record the displayed end date and retain the confirmation.

If you bought equipment through financing or agreed to separate installation or other services, review those obligations separately. Canceling a Ring subscription does not by itself settle another agreement. Check Ring’s current cancellation steps.

What changes when your paid plan ends?

Have an older Ring Alarm? Ring has described legacy eligibility for some earlier accounts. Ask Ring to confirm your account’s status before assuming you will retain app controls or notifications without a plan. Do not test an emergency function to find out. Would a different plan meet your needs?

These are the current US advertised subscription prices, not a promise about your renewal or a hardware bundle. Taxes, optional add-ons and equipment are separate.

Old names are not a reliable guide to today’s bill. Ring renamed its Home plans in 2026; some accounts have Premium Legacy arrangements. Check your account’s actual price and included features rather than treating older Basic, Plus, Standard or Premium descriptions as current offers. Read Ring’s plan-change explanation.

Ring’s instructions for a downgrade are to cancel and then resubscribe to the preferred tier. An upgrade credit is different from a cancellation refund. Confirm timing and recording access before changing plans. Manage or change a Ring plan.

Keep, downgrade or replace?

• Keep the current plan if you use its features and the full renewal price works for you.
• Compare a lower tier if you need camera recording but not the same monitoring or additional features. Check the covered devices and location.
• Consider replacement equipment only after identifying what your current devices cannot do without the plan. Compare the complete camera, storage, power and subscription costs before buying anything new.

Compare recording requirements for six camera models or read the Ring review. If you are comparing a new monitored system, check its written offer; a competitor’s equipment-financing term is not automatically its service-contract term.

Common cancellation questions

Does Ring charge an early termination fee?

Ring’s current ring.com cancellation instructions describe stopping renewal at the end of the paid billing period and do not list a separate early termination fee. Unused subscription time generally is not refunded unless applicable law requires it. Check any separate equipment, installation or financing agreement.

Will I lose my saved Ring videos?

Ring says access to recorded videos is lost when the plan ends, and subscribing again will not restore past recordings. Download anything you want to keep before canceling.

Will Ring Alarm still work without a subscription?

Ring’s current US instructions describe keypad arming and disarming and a local siren without a plan, but no digital alarm notifications or monitoring-center emergency request. Legacy account eligibility can differ; ask Ring to confirm your exact account before relying on app features.

Does Ring Edge provide subscription-free recording?

No. Ring’s documentation requires a compatible subscription, Ring Alarm Pro Base Station and microSD card for Ring Edge. A card in the base station is not proof that recording and playback will continue after the subscription ends.

Can I choose a cheaper Ring plan instead?

Yes, but compare the features you need first. Ring’s current downgrade instructions say to cancel the existing subscription and resubscribe to the preferred tier. Download important videos and confirm the changeover with Ring so you understand any loss of features or recording access.
