ecobee announced its opt-in Home Summary on October 29, 2026, saying the app rollout was starting that day. The daily digest brings together information about the home, such as heating, cooling and security activity. A rollout announcement does not establish that every customer can already use it. Official announcement
Three separate security features were announced for a rollout beginning by the end of 2026. Their intended plan requirements differ:
| Feature | What it is intended to do | Announced plans |
|---|---|---|
| Security Activity Summary | Group related security events into clearer updates | Core, Plus and Advanced |
| Video Descriptions | Add descriptions to recorded camera activity; opt-in | Advanced |
| Quick Search | Find security events using natural-language requests; opt-in | Advanced |
These are announced features, not a hands-on assessment or confirmation that they are generally available today. The company's stated deadline concerns the start of their rollout, not completion for every household. Rollout and feature details
Core is free with ecobee security devices, according to the U.S. product page checked November 2. That means the planned Activity Summary is not restricted to paid tiers. Advanced is a paid plan, while professional monitoring is offered separately. The announcement does not establish a monitoring add-on as a condition for these AI features. Current U.S. plans
Home Summary's own price and complete eligibility requirements remain unconfirmed in the sources reviewed. We have not verified a complete supported-device list, minimum app version, regional rollout schedule or date when everyone will receive it. Do not assume that a familiar feature name means your particular combination of devices is supported.
Before buying hardware or changing subscriptions, check whether the feature you want is actually offered for your home and what connected equipment it uses. Base a purchase on capabilities available to you now; an announced addition can be a reason to revisit the decision later. A missing menu option alone does not tell you whether you need another device or a different plan.
ecobee's Terms of Service warn that AI outputs can contain errors or omissions and require human evaluation. Read an unusual summary alongside the underlying event or device information before acting. Descriptions and grouped alerts should not be treated as proof that an incident was prevented or that a home is safe. AI output limitations
